Year 4 have been learning more and more about the Egyptians. They have also been practising their Family assembly for Friday 2 nd February (which we’re assuming is about the Egyptians!)
YR In Reception, they are still doing winter. They have made wonderful clay penguins and have been drawing winter pictures by hand and on the computers.
Koinona Today Tom from Doodle Maths came in to talk about his company’s trip to Nigeria. He talked about the hygiene and smell in a main city in Nigeria before talking about the difference in education. After that he talked about how he and his company planted the amazing maths app into their tablets to greatly improve their education. Julian House This week the local charity Julian House came in to talk. They discussed a major problem (homelessness.) They told us about how they help the homeless with their centre in bath. The centre has 30 beds and friendly staff to serve and greet their customers. They told us a story about “Jim” whom was homeless and needed a home - a welcoming member of Julian House let him stay at their centre.
Year 3 have been making roman mosaics. They used colourful pieces of paper that have been cut into tiny squares and stuck them on a black piece of card as a stunning mosaic. Year 4 made ancient Egyptian paintings. Helen (mother of Ruben Solomons and Lily May Solomons) came in with quills and year 4 used these instead of painting brushes. By Eva Y6
Year 1 Year 1 have been learning about day and night. They are reading, “Day monkey, Night monkey.” On January 23rd they did Forest School, which they really enjoyed.
Year 2 Year two’s topic is London. They have made models of famous landmarks and have been following Paddington around London. As well as that, they have made information booklets about the Great Fire of London.
YEAR R In Reception, their topic is winter. They have been learning about Antarctica, the animals that live there and where it is on the globe. They also have been making igloos with their Year 6 reading partners out of materials like foam, polystyrene, cardboard, tissue paper and, most importantly, glitter!
Year 4 Year 4 have started learning about the epic Egyptians. Year 4 have been learning about the river Nile in particular and why it was so important to the Ancient Egyptians. They will hopefully be putting up a display in their classroom soon!
Year 3 Year 3 are learning about the Awesome Ancient Romans. They are learning about the formations the Roman army would use to take cover in battle. One of the formations was called turtle formation. Year 3 also learnt about the weapons and armour the Romans used.
Class 5 by Jim P Class 5 have been learning about ancient Greek myths. First, they were focusing on Perseus, the hero who killed the vain monster Medusa who has snakes as hair. Whoever looks at her turns to stone! The other myth they have been working on is Theseus and the Minotaur. In this myth, Theseus is alarmed when he hears the king is giving people to an evil king who will feed them to the dreaded Minotaur. In science class 5 have been learning about space and have learned the size difference between the Earth and the Sun, the distance between the planets and the sun and the answer to ”Is there anyone out there?” ( or at least what people think about it).
Koinonia (this means assembly) The topic for this term in Koinonia is Justice. Throughout the last 11 days we have been told stories by Ms. Sykes which have represented justice in many different ways. We have learnt the meaning of justice and different ways of showing it. Hope for Homes for Children Last week Hope and Homes for Children came to assembly to talk about their amazing charity. The charity’s dream is to stop children being kept in orphanages. They have found homes for many children in Britain. Each pupil got to take home a bookmark and a leaflet about their cause. 1001 Arabian nights A group of amazing pantomime actors came in to show us a preview of their amazing performance 1001 Arabian nights. The performance will contain many children from Bathford school. They told us that they will be holding an competition where Bathford school children can draw posters. One poster from each class will win a free ticket and their poster will be used to promote the ...
